Step 1: Prepare the Surface

  • Remove existing shingles to expose the roof deck. Ensure the surface is clean.

  • Inspect for rotten or damaged wood and replace any compromised sections.

  • Install a roof underlayment, starting from the bottom and working your way up. This acts as a moisture barrier under the metal panels.

Step 2: Install the Drip Edge

  • Attach a drip edge along the roof edges to direct water away from the fascia.

  • Ensure it runs along all eaves and gable ends for full protection against water damage.

Step 3: Install the Panels

  • Begin by placing your first panel square at the edge of the roof. To ensure it’s square, measure the overhang and adjust as needed to align with the roof edge.

  • Fasten the panel with exposed screws, placing screws on the flat part of the panel, avoiding the ribs.

  • For overlapping panels, overlap the ribs by at least one rib width, and make sure the panels are straight and properly aligned before securing.

Step 4: Install the Trim

  • Install trim pieces, such as the gable trim and eave trim, along the roof edges and corners to cover exposed ends of the metal panels.

  • Use the appropriate fasteners to secure the trim.

Step 5: Install the Ridge Cap

  • Place the ridge cap over the peak of the roof, making sure it covers the top ends of the panels from both sides.

  • Secure the ridge cap with screws, ensuring the overlap is correct and that it’s fastened tightly to prevent water ingress.

Step 6: Final Inspection

  • Inspect all fasteners to make sure they’re properly tightened and that none are loose.

  • Check the roof for any misaligned panels or gaps and adjust as needed.

  • Ensure the ridge cap and trim are secure and that all seams are tight to prevent water from entering. Following these steps will ensure a secure and properly installed metal roof.
